Of all the words used by professionals, none seems so clear when we hear it but on close examination becomes so vague as does "intelligence." A formal definition might help a little: Intelligence is the ability to understand and adapt to the environment by using a combination of inherited abilities and learning experiences. Psychologists first tried to measure intelligence in a mechanical way in the late 1800's and these tests have evolved from there.

1.) Compare and Contrast the Stanford-Binet and the Wechsler Intelligence Tests. Make sure you delve into the details of what and who each test was designed for. As well as specifics on different parts to each test. Add you own thoughts and opinions at the end.

1. Stanford-Binet Intelligence Test revolves around four main elements which are: Direction, Adaptability, Comprehension, and Self-evaluation. It is mostly used for locating children who would have trouble in school. The Wechsler Intelligence Test revolved around two different tests, the verbal scale and performance scale (IQ). This test is used for people without a formal education and it measured how bright they were in real life.

The Stanford-Binet intelligence test was the first intelligence test to be made. This test was refined at Stanford University in California. This test had four elements that were: 1) Directiion-the ability to set up a goal and work toward it. 2)Adaptability-means that when faced with a problem, the person can make the adjustments needed to solve it. 3)Comprehension-means having a basic understanding of exactly what the problem is. 4)Self evaluation-whether or not a person has solved the problem.

The first part of the test is verbal like the Stanford-Binet test, but the second part of the test is a nonverbal test that works on a performance scale. This performance scale relies on a person's ability to reason. Weschler then changed his test to combine the verbal and the performance part.
The Stanford-Binet intelligence test was based on four principles: direction, adaptablility, comprehension, and self-evaluation. The Wechsler intelligence test involve verbal and performance evaluations. In this way, the tests are different, and overall, I feel that the wechsler is the better test, because it doesn't rely entirely on the verbal speaking of a person. This allocates the use of a persons skills in speaking and real life situations.

The Binet Test is much longer and the Wechsler is shorter. Binet Test involves mamny more thinking habits, while the Wechsler is simple math to figure it out.

ReplyDeleteThe Wechsler Intelligence Test finds your mental age and divides it by your chronological age and multiplies by 100. It is more made for inate intelligence not school work.
The Stanford-Binet would be more helping when trying to figure out how much help a child would need in school if they are having trouble. The Wechsler would be useful when trying to find out the general intelligence of a population by finding their IQ.

Almostall the items require some knid of searching for a word answer. There were problems with the Binet test, though. Wechsler hit on the idea of a two-part intellifence test. The first part contained verbal items like the Binet (verbal scale), but a second part was a nonverbal IQ test called a performance scale.

Both tests are similar because they deal with the mental capability of a person. Of course they arent 100% accurate. We may never know the real capabilities of the human brain by a few tests and problems. I personally think that intelligence is just another way to make people feel special.

The Wechsler scales are divided into six verbal and five performance subtests. The complete test takes 60-90 minutes to administer. Verbal and PerformanceIQs are scored based on the results of the testing, and then a composite Full Scale IQ score is computed. The Wechsler test is easier and is used more often by psychologists and schools. Both are very useful.
I have done the Wechsler test before and is very simple to do. I am unaware of how the Standford Binet one works.

The standford-binet tells the childs age by there intellegence, and is the original intelligence test developed. The Wechsler does it on the square of 100. It helps with knowing where children are at in school.
