Your Assignment:
Read the three paragraphs under the heading, "Emotional Factors in Learning" in your book on page 219. The chapter explains that emotional involvement will usually increase learning. Describe a teacher you have now or have had in the past who "creates emotion" in class. What does the teacher do to "create" the emotion, and what is the effect? Explain.

When I took weights the last three year I had Mr. Rush as a teacher. I would say he made emotion in the weight room. When you were not trying very hard or when you needed a little more motivation to get the lift he would yell at you or encourage you until you got the lift. Then if you couldn't he would say something to you to make you mad, so then it makes you want to try harder to get it. The emotion he created could go two ways. It could make you work harder or it could make you give up. That all depends on you.
ReplyDeleteWhen i lived in Gering, our science teacher was always making us laugh. He would tell jokes and do funny things. This made most of the students want to keep on having him as a teacher and to learn more. He was also a very good wrestling coach. He always pushed us to be better, to be the best, to be number one. Even if we lost all of the time he always told us we did awesome.
ReplyDeletei agree with Michaela about Mr.Rush. Anytime i needed extra motivation he was there to lite the fire undermy but to get me to work harder. Even while we are in your class when we are laughing having a good time i thing alot of us retain alot of things when we are having fun. by saying that i mean when you hangout with friends and make memories your having fun when you do it. so if you could laugh and have fun like that in the class you might learn alot more.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Moninger in my college english class tries to make topics funny every once in a while. Sometimes even when it's not that funny she laughs at her own joke which gets a few more laughs from the class. The effect of using occasional humor in the classroom causes us to remember what we were talking about. When you have an emotion attached to a memory it becomes easier to recall.
ReplyDeleteMy CNA instructor was a lady that was picky and also wanted you to do the best she knew you could do. She was picky and precise about things because she knows what needs to be done to take care of someone. Some people liked she was this way so you knew how the real care given would be. Others would be mad she would nitpick. I felt she was a positive lady the way she wanted us to do everything the right way.
ReplyDeleteI have had classes that the teachers love to joke around and have fun. Many of my teachers create humor and it never seems to be a problem. However, in the past sometimes the joking and humor may have been taking to far. When it went to far it became hard to concentrate and focus on the lesson. Humor is good in the classroom because it helps you learn better, but it can not become a distraction. Like Colter said school should be fun but it also has to be a place of learning.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Svenson does a good job of creating emotion in the class especially when taking her class in later years. She usually allows a bit of time to talk and tell jokes and stories and even takes part by invoking laughter. After this she brings it back in to what she is teaching. In times with A&P we learn some goofy words and sexual words and being teenagers of course we are going to joke about it. The thing is, especially with Kaden, if a word is pronounced funnily or used in sexual connotation the word is memorized indefinitely.
ReplyDeleteI guess if I had to state an example, I'd say that Dr. Beshaler tries her hardest to get me to get stuff done in college prep. And I have been getting more done because of that and the fact that college will be here soon. A teacher tries to get the best out of by telling you how it will pay off in the future.
ReplyDeleteI've only ever had Mr. Ellis as a teacher once in my entire life, but I can say that he is good at creating emotion in the classroom. As a seventh grader, he made learning fun with his wit and the games that we would sometimes play when we were studying. As a One-Acts coach, he's even better at creating emotion. He can get you to feel the tragedy or the comedy of the play, and he can help get you into your character as well by helping you lay out who the character is and why they're feeling what they feel. As a One-Acts coach he's very spontaneous and that makes it fun. Thus, you are able to connect to the One-Act more easily.
ReplyDeleteI would say that Mr. Hinman creates emotions. Since he teaches psychology he has to use some personal stories to try to explain what he is talking about. He uses his life and what happens to him to teach us. We often hear him relate something. The effect is that we get a better understanding of it. We can feel how and what he felt.
ReplyDeleteI had a teacher back home in Germany who created emotions. He was really funny and everybody liked to be in his class. It was really helpful it made looking forward to come to his class and helped you learning and focusing in class. But even he was really friendly and funny, he didn't lose his authority. He got mad if you forgot your homework, that's why nobody wanted to forget his homework to make him mad.
ReplyDeleteWhen Mrs. Wolken was the art teacher, she always had a way of bringing a lot of emotion out of me and onto paper or into a project. She taught me how to open up and express myself with a pencil. When i was insecure about anything, she would push me to get my emotion out and that is exactly what i needed. She created emotion for everyone not just me. Art was and still is my favorite class because Mrs. Wolken always taught me to be myself and to always have a positive attitude toward everything.
ReplyDeleteAll my choir camps, and Honor Choirs were done by Dr. David Bauer. He always had a way of bringing the music to life and putting emotion into the song. Dr. Bauer taught me apperication for music and what it really is trying to say, so you can sing with emotion and not just a blank face. He made the whole room inspired and passionate. He would get upset if you didn't take a certain song with pride or the right emotion because the composer worked so hard to make the composer proud. What I gained from working with him was the understanding of music and he also preached about respect.
ReplyDeleteI had a teacher in Broken Bow that always had us create a skit or something to show that we learned what she was teaching. She was also really funny and kept things interesting in class. She was also my basketball coach and had us do the same things in practice. She was definitely one of my favorites.
