Methods of Research (Blog #3)




To avoid bias and false conclusions, psychology, as a science, tries to be as objective as possible in its studies.


Your Assignment:

Choose three different methods of research, describe the benefits of those methods and why you chose them over the others.

    Survey Method, you can gather information on feelings, opinions, and behavior patterns.

    Psychological Test, provides accurate, objective information--little chance of distorting results.

    Interview, Researcher can obtain personal, detailed information.

    I would choose the Laboratory experiment because it provides accurate information.
    I would also choose the Survey Method you can gather all the information you need to know and have it be there for the lab experiment.
    I would chhose the Cross Sectional method because it is less expensive.

    Scientific method because it can prove if someone is truly bad or if it is just them.
    Naturalistic because it is a natural observation.
    Field because it is more realistic.
    I chose these because they seem more helpful than the other methods.

    1. Field, it is more realistic then in a lab.
    2. Case Study, it provides background information on the subject. I chose this because it everyone has a different back story, and that can effect behavior.
    3. Cross-Sectional Method, it studies population as a whole, it finds information that can be used on everyone and not just one person.

    1. Cross sectional Method: it looks at different age groups at the same time in order to understand changes
    2. Case study Method: It collects lengthy, detailed information about a persons background
    3. Survey Method: research by asking questions on feelings, opinions, and behavior patterns.

    survey method because i think it can be accurate about somethings but not very accurate on things.
    naturalistic observation is another id choose because everything is natural so researchers cant effect their answers in any way.
    i would also choose case study method because it provides background info on things so it can be accurate.

    Interviews-Because people can talk to someone and ask questions. Its more one on one.
    Case Study Method-This provides background information that may lead to the present. This could stop anything in the future.
    Feild experiment-The setting is more relistic than in a labortory. They can see how they act when there in a natural invierment.

    Control: becasue you can change the outcome of the results
    Control group: you can have a group that you can control what they take and soso
    Results: you can see the outcome and see what is more effective and so so

    1) I agree with the interview method because it seems very logical because you can learn alot about peoples problems if you ask them questions.
    2. I also agree with survey because they look into the behavior of the subject.
    3) But i also agree with the naturalistic observation because they are watching you without you knowing. So in that case you would act more natural.

    1. Laboratory Experiment- Researcher can be completely objective. I chose this one because i think to figure out why something is happening you have to experiment on it.
    2. Naturalistic Observation- Behavior studied is completely natural.I think this is somewhat like laboratory experiment because you have to study what your trying to find out and what your experimenting on and observe it.
    3. Interveiw- Researcher can obtain personal, detailed information.i shoose this one too becasue scientists need to hear what people are experencing and how they feel.

    1- i think that the naturalistic observation is probably the most accurate way to observe people because they are in their own environment. psychological tests are a good way to show how large numbers of people are. the survey method is good took because it just is small meaningless questions to people so they answer quickly.

    1- A case study is an in-depth study of one person.

    2- A double-blind study is one in which neither the participants or the experimenters know who is receiving a particular treatment.

    3- Applied research refers to scientific study and research that seeks to solve practical problems.

    4- I think they were the best choices to pick from.
